We arrived 25 min before flight and had a bag to check for a 7 A M flight. They had overbooked and were looking for volunteers to go later. They refused to let us volunteer and lied that they no longer offered standby. Even though I was my most polite as I knew it was my fault for being late, they were so rude. I asked, "can you help me get on standby or figure out which flight to take as we need to get to a wedding. They said Here is a phone no. Now get out of the way.
Only after talking to an airport official and standing in line 2 more times and finally having to respond with unpleasantness to demand a Delta supervisor, did they admit you DO have the right to get on a standby list for day of your missed flight. Then an hour after we were finally added to the standby list, someone erased our whole online record, so then we had to fly standby for the connections too! Horrible experience!
