We just left Oahu 2 days ago. Left Maui and flew to Oahu and then were getting a nonstop night flight to Newark. In Oahu they told us that our carryons weighed too much. We were dumbstruck. We do a decent amount of flying, in fact had flown 2 months previous, and never had any problem. Debi, the customer services person we got at Hawaiian airlines told us that we had too much in our one carryon. She said United had the same rule. We asked why and she said they had 2 head injuries in several months. I got a bit beligerent and told her that since they charge for lugagge, and people use more carryons they had to "drum up business." I know I was nasty back to her but every time we fly there are new rules. We flew from Newark 2 months ago and landed in Phoenix where we had to go through security a second time. When I asked why he said that's the way its done. I told him in all my travels, which include Egypt, Turkey, and Greece it never happened and it never happened here in the US. His answer was well then they are all wrong. I am so sick of airlines and their food. The next thing that will happen is that we won't be able to bring any food on board or we'll have to pay t bring it on. I'm a type 1 diabetic and if that happens, I will definitely feel a law suit coming on.

Since this is a 9-11 hour flight (or as I call it a THREE movie flight), it would be nice if the video systems worked. On each leg there were problems with at least one of the video channels I wanted to watch. But making best of a bad situation, I got to watch "The King's Speech" TWICE :) When I booked and paid $930 for the flight, a meal was included; unfortunately, 3 days prior to leaving, CO eliminated the meal and only offered for purchase food :( On top of the highest fares we have EVER paid HNL-EWR, we had to pay for checked luggage each way which made the tickets almost $1K for each of us. You would have hoped that CO would have comp'ed a meal from 1st Class at those prices. A very SENIOR Female FA of color was not very customer service oriented & should be retired SOON :(

“Refuse combination United/Continental booking until 2012”

The Continental pilots had too many flight hours delaying us 3 hours until they brought in new pilots and then Continental could not "see" United's connections to re-book our missed flights because the two systems will not merge until 2012. Continental was not helpful either. Fortunately United came through for us but not everyone!

Older plane. Movie screens and speakers faulty, baggage fares unreasonable, cramped seating. Delayed due to "safety and fuel"issues. That's all.

“Continental tries to do the right thing by its customers”

Continental to and from Hawaii round trip non-stop was tough, I don't recommend a non-stop to Hawaii, break it up if you can. The seats are very tight making it difficult to sleep (nearly an 11 hour trip). Our flight was 4 hours delayed coming home, that was inconvenient but I know it happens. sometimes. Continental did give us a $15 food voucher but we had to use it within 1/2 hour of getting it because the food court was closing. They also gave us a 10% discount on a future flight. So overall I would recommend Continental the tried to do the right thing.
