We got a great deal on these round trip tickets. Untied express was a frist for us. Definatey cost saving is on the mind of this airline. The trp down, while uneventful was a bit cramped in a retty dated airplane, but on time. We never check luggage, only carry on. The trip back was not so good. 10 minutes before boarding time, we were told the plane had not arrived and was experiencing mechanical difficulties. We had to be put on a different fight several hours later. This meant we missed out connecting flight. That part wasn't so bad except soon before boarding, they wanted 2 volunteers to be bumped. If no one volunteered, the lowest paid fares would be involuntarily bumped! That was upsetting to us because most likely we had the lowest fare. BUT, this was not the flight we were supposed to be on in the first place! people did volunteer, but once on the plane, they wanted yet another...same deal. Luckily for us, someone took it. The plane was down 3 seats by then. they said it was a weight problem. it seems they must have loaded too much luggage and had to bump people instead. There was an elderly man(85) we befriended along the way who had to find water to take his medicine. it was a long walk and he was a little slow but not unreasonably so. They announced boarding and we tried to tell them he was coming. they had a real attitude and said " the doors will close in 4 minutes whether he is here or not!". He did make the flight but once on the plane, we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for yet another mechanical issue anyway. We noticed the saem woman arguing with another couple for reasons we couldn't quite hear, but t got heated. I didn't like the non accomodating attitude. I do not fly united often and will think twice in the future. Ido, however, enjoy airfare watchdog!

Next time I will go with Southwest who fly direct. US Airways aggage charges made the cost similar. Airlines should be made to note the additional (and increasing) costs for baggage in large type. Cabin stewards were overwhelmed by the number of larger suitcases brought on board (all flights). Doesn't anyone check the size anymore?? Several people with proper size luggage could not stow it because overhead bins filled quickly. The directions in DC to board the connecting flight were poor, as the plane was on the tarmac, not at a gate. Very confusing to get to the plane via multiple staircases and bus. I doubt I will fly US Airways again.

The big thing was the flight. We held north-northwest of Nashville, I estimate somewhere between Bowling Green and Paducah, due to tunderstorms. The area was full of them. This was the weekend that produced the "Flood of the Century" for Nashville. Airport was closed for a while but when it opened up, the pilots along with ATC got us to Nashville safely. Yes it was bumpy but I've flown trips more bumpy with less intimidating weather in the area. Well done.
