The airlines have it all wrong. They should charge for carry on luggage and checked luggage should be free. The carry on luggage is way too large for the bins. Secondly, you should only be able to store luggage in the compartment above your seat. if it doesn't fit then check it.

Going through the normal boarding routine someone dropped something rather gross next to my seat in the aisle and it got continually stepped on as passengers boarded. Looked like the remnants of a half eaten sandwich or something. I was sure that a certain flight attendant saw it as she nearly walked over it several times. I finally asked her if she could pick it up.
"What is it?" she snarled at me as if it were mine.
"How should I know?" I asked. "I just don't want to sit next to it this whole flight."
"It'll have to wait. I won't get it without gloves on." She countered, hastily walking away.
Eventually she returned and did pick it up. "Thank you very much." I said. She didn't reply.
