The trip to Charlotte was non-stop and it was a short flight. I was to leave at 2:10 in the afternoon. I was there an hour early. Plane came in and they said something was wrong w/ the flap. Pilots hung out for a long time, the airline just kept delaying the flight and did not cancel or ask if they could help anyone get on another airline. 2 more flights left from the next gate to Charlotte, but they were full and would not let us on. By 6:30 in the evening, I am still sitting in Dayton, no cancelled flight, just delayed. I had to fight to get a flight out and finally ended up going to NYC waiting another 2 hrs there and then to Charlotte NC Arrived in Charlotte 11:30 at night. Missed a whole day w/ my son, had to pay 240.00 hotel bill in Asheville, b/c/ I did not make it there until 4:30 in the morning. No, explanation from the airline, no communicationw/ the passengers w/ what was going on...nothing! They did not cancell the flight b/c they would have had to give compensation of some sort I suppose. What angered me was that we sat and waited patiently and the communication as to the potential for fixing the problem was nil. We found out from the internet that the flight was continually delayed before we found out from the gate. The trip home w/ United was fine, but overall...I was not impressed and will not fly them again unless I do not have a choice.
