Stayed overnite in Chicago to catch flight leaving at 10:00AM-Flight cancelled. Rebooked on flight leaving at 6:35PM. Still on the runway at 9:00PM. Due to death in the family, had to return early. Airlines wanted an addittional $550.00 to change tickets. Finally supervisor asked for $50.00 to change tickets. Back to counter as we were declined a seat for non-payment of $140.00 baggage fee. Supervisor walked us back to the gate as the fee was paid. Person at door declined our boarding as flight was full. Finally boarded the 3:30 flight which took off at about 7:00PM. We were offered $28.00 for 4 meals(I don't care for hotdogs)& a $50.00 credit for a future flight which must be taken within a short time period. As I trip insurnace, I called Spirit for a written explanation as to why the flight was cancelled as required by the insurance company, I'm still waiting for a written answer. Between the insurance company & Spirit I am not surprised by their lack of comp[assion!

Unless you can cope with tight quarters, surprising baggage fees and a charge for every little thing, then don't do it! Yeah, ticket was cheap - but as said by a previous writer - totally not worth it. Fly American Airlines, or even better - Southwest Airlines. Pay the extra $20.00 - $40.00 - It'll be worth it.

We checked in quickly, took off on time, seats were good, and had a great flight and didn't cost and arm and leg.

I did not upgrade my seating on this trip, but I did on the return. The seats were located extremely close together, and even with my short 5'4" frame I found that my knees nearly touched the seat in front of me! I can't imagine what some of the bigger guys I saw going past me had to do to get into their seats. I also found that the great discounted fare I got was counterbalanced by being charged for every item, including soda or even coffee during the flight. While I understand this, it was a surprise. You were allowed only one personal item and then any additional carry-on had to be paid for as an extra fee as well. Of course, it all had to fit in the tight spaces to get under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. Overall the experience was not terrible, but you definitely got what you paid for each step of the way. My priority was flight availability and price and I was able to get the flight I at a price I wanted. I did like the fact that you could purchase a "big front seat" for only $50 - they have done away with first class and just arranged nice big seats, 2 and 2, in the front section. I might do this on the next trip and see how that works out, comparing the total price to another regular airline's price. Thank you for the opportunity to review!

I had a very smooth and uneventful flight to and from Ft. Lauderdale last month on American Airlines. Both flights took off on time or very close to it and arrived early. Any potential delay in departures was always due to having to check passengers' bags because they had brought on too many or too large carry-on items and others boarding earlier had not stowed their bags properly (wheels in, etc.). The captain, pilot and flight attendants all performed their duties in an exemplary manner. I will definitely check American first the next time I need to book a flight.

even though the actual ticket was cheap, by the time I paid all of the extras, it cost much more that a real airline. The employees could care less about the passengers. I worked in the airline business for 25 years, and spirit is the worse.

I am a short person but still had less that adequate legroom. The seats are so flimsey that I could feel the knees/legs of the person behind me moving around right thru the seat. Spirits carry on fees a bad idea too. They have skimped too much.

If you want to be nickeled and dimed to death then fly spirit airline. Even a glass of water cost you. The leg room between the seats is very small. If you are taller than 5'10 then pay the extra $20.00 for a seat, again another charge. The cost of just the ticket between Spirit and American Airlines was $ 5.00 a person. We chose Spirit because we could come home 3 hours later. That was a big mistake. On the flight to Fort Lauderdale the flight attendants didn't work to hard they talk to the pilot when he can out for to go to the bathroom. He talked to the flight attendant for at least 10 minutes. Then on the way back the flight attendants talked to a pilot that was dead head back to Chicago. It wasn't until the plane was ready to land that they came and collect anything that was needed to be throw away. I contact Spirit and they told me that the extra charges keep their ticket fares down and they were sorry for the bad experience we had. With all there hidden costs it is much cheaper to fly other carriers that have much better service. The only way you get the really cheap fares if you join there club- that is also a cost. Good luck if you fly Spirit.
