The ord-fra route is no longer served by American Airlines or Air India. United and Lufthansa are the only non-stop options.

Certainly the days of anything special on an international flight are long gone. However, the Lufthansa flight in coach was better than any other airline I have travelled in recent years. More leg room, free beverage services, and regular customer service.

I have flown the AA flight 84/83 route to FRA from ORD many times in past 5-6 years, and this flight continues to have some of the best people in commercial air travel staffing the planes. I always feel like I am flying in the 70's or early 80's when the traveler was actually treated with respect, whenever I take this flight.

I was hesitant about flying Air India but it was the best transatlantic flight for me so far. Seat pitch is much longer than AA. Food was Great! Aircraft was 777ER. Flight was not packed.
I took my dog. He was fine. Air India check-in at ORD was great. Security is ALWAYS a useless PITA but but here it was tolerable.
Price was ~20% of other airlines for one-way ticket!!! I did have to go to the Air India office in downtown chicago to buy my ticket in person. I don't know why I could not buy online.
Unfortunately I was told Air India is discontinuing this route in November. I would love to take this flight again.
