Watch out for hidden fees. I booked my flight online and certain charges were automatically added to the bill - for example, preferred seating. Remember to uncheck these items unless wanted. Allegiant is very strict with baggage size. They will measure your bag. Baggages fees are $35 per segment of travel. My departure flight left an hour late. The plane was present but the boarding crew was very disorganized and unprofessional. On my return flight, my checked bag was damaged but because I did not report the damage within 4 hours, I did not get any compensation. Allegiant markets itself as a discount airline but when all the extra charges are factored in, it is not so cheap.

Of the five Allegiant flights I have taken, there were angry passengers at the check-in counters for four of them, unhappy that they were being dunned $35 for "oversize" carry-ons. Allegiant's allowable dimensions are lower than other airline's. Also, they charge for everything on-board: reserved seat, drinks, snacks, even water. On the other hand, they offer the only non-stop service to many locations, and one can usually find an attractive fare by searching daily for weeks or months and being very flexible. Of course it will cost $14 more if you can't go to the airport to pay for it during Allegiant's very limited counter hours, and if you are buying it online you have to navigate around seemingly endless optional add-ons like fees for flight insurance, priority boarding, seat choices, etc.. You may also have to carry anything in excess of your first carry-on bag (e.g., laptop case, overcoat) in your lap or under the seat in front of you since Allegiant doesn't have adequate overhead space if the plane is nearly full. On my flight from BLI to OAK, we boarded on-time but sat on the runway for over an hour. When they finally decided that they couldn't fly the plane we were on, we disboarded and hiked back to the terminal through the rain. After reboarding another plane even further from the terminal, we departed only two hours late. It could have been worse. To sum it up, if you do not suffer from high blood pressure, have plenty of time to secure your ticket, and don't mind a few cut corners in exchange for saving some dollars, Allegiant might be the airline for you.

Allegiant is a charge for everything airline. Reservation, seat assignments, on line check in, baggage, water, they have a charge for it all. We arrived for check in with a bag meeting their specifications. They insisted it was too large and that they had to charge for it. The actual bin size on the MD80 we were flying islarger than their bag specs. The binson board were about 2/3 full - so we were not the only ones. The agents comment about the charge --"We don't charge for bathrooms -- yet."
