Original 6a leg from BWI to PHI cancelled, but no notification phone call. Given a card with 800 number to rebook while standing in line. The rebooking personnel were not allowed to book on other airlines because 'the wait was so long and the answer was 99%-no availability" First offered next day flight, but then found one at 6p. Worst part-luggage damaged beyond use. I don't know what they did, but one wheel doesn't work, one 'leg' broken off, one handle broken off, another askew. Will be writing the company on this one! In flight service-pay for pillow/blanket $7. Service not remarkable on Phi-Sea leg.

This trip was entirely too long & tiring for us. We tried to get direct flights but nothing was affordable. Our destination was Vancouver but we could not afford to fly into Vancouver. The airline people in Baltimore were very rude at the desks when we had questions. The stewardesses were nicer as they were able to change our seats on the outbound flight. My husband is very tall & needed to have leg room.

All went well; I had slim women beside me both ways; I was in an aisle seat, my favorite. Could have been much worse if I were in the middle seat and had any wide bodies next to me. Otherwise, the crew was efficient and polite, the bathrooms clean, the seats worked properly and I had a fast moving book to read. I was not happy that Airtran charges for wi-fi, so I never used my laptop.

The check-in area was confused and poorly organized at Dulles. The staff was poorly allocated and the baggage check-in line was extremely long. Once on the plane, we were crammed in tiny seats without leg room. I am 5 feet tall and I felt cramped. The only high point was that we were given full cans of soda on the trip to Seattle. However, on the trip west there was a $2 charge for earphones and on the trip east they were free! Huh? The same movie was shown on both trips. The stewards were fine; they came in all shapes and sizes. Bravo to Delta on that one!

We were very delayed by thunderstorms. The airlines kept apologizing and saying one-half hour more. It turned out to be about 2 hours. The plane was okay. I just wish that people would clean up the lavatories after they use them on flights. I often wonder about their homes... Delta has no consistency about earphone policy. One way (going west) there was a $2.00 charge for earphones. Going east the earphones were free. Same earphones; same movie for that matter. Huh? The flight attendants were okay but they never smiled. They passed out glasses of drinks, etc. Then nothing. They chatted with each other in the back of the plane.

We have avoided Southwest due to the "first-come, first-served" seating. But, due to scheduling we did try it after several years. It was easy, orderly, and on time!

Fair was cheap and check in was quick and easy, but not sure it was worth it. Cross country is a long way to be packed into little seats with no leg room (and I'm only 5'1"!!). I'll keep AirTran for short flights.
