Everything was smooth from check-in to landing. Even the food was not bad. Fantastic service, good movies...all made an international flight as comfortable as it could be. Now if I was in first class.....

Delta is spending $2-billion to better improve its customers' experiences. On this recent trans-Atlantic hop, it showed.
In general, Delta's flight attendants were friendly. The plane was clean. We got out on time. The in-flight, seatback entertainment system was a great edition for the 8-hour flight. The food, while nothing fantastic, was certainly edible. An additional, substantial 'snack' before landing was also welcomed.
Seats remain a bit thin and lumbar support minimal, but this doesn't seem to be unique to Delta.
Overall, Delta exceeded my (low) expectations.

From start to finish our flight was as smooth as a trans-Atlantic flight could be. Our check in was swift and easy both ways.We had warm, friendly service (with those wonderful British accents), comfortable seating, and edible food on the flight. We got all of this for a very reasonable price.

When Air France promoted their international Premium Voyageur in December with low fares I decided to try it on family trip for three to Ireland. (Citi Jet partner did the CDG-DUB leg).
Getting the fare and selecting our preferred seats was easy. Not so easy was dealing with the four unrequested seat reassignments. No one at Skyteam partner Delta could or would help. Finally I admitted defeat and took the three seats together in the four seat center. Seating is 2-4-2 versus 3-4-3 in coach on their 777s. Space was OK, but certainly not close to biz class, more like biz twenty-five years ago or so. Comfort was marginal with the hard shell seats allowing little recline. Sleeping is not easy-more like coach but with leg rest and a little more leg room.
Checking all the bags without charge was a good deal since they allow two each. (Well, except on the way back when I had to carry on one for a reason not at all clear).
Alcohol is free but it's pretty hard to get a refill as the crew also handles the crowd in the back. Food was also coach fare but not bad at all.
Upshot? If it's twice the coach fare, maybe it's not a value. But at a 40% increase it's worth serious consideration, especially on daylight flights like the return, where I managed to see three movies and do a Sunday newspaper crossword in relative comfort on the nine and a half hour flight.

Delta's service was really good...checkin, in-flight personnel, movies, meals all good...BUT...
where is the leg room? Where is the wiggle room??
Seems the larger airbuses have underseat equipment boxes under most seats that leave ABSOLUTELY NO LEG ROOM! Perhaps this is ok for petite people but we are 5'9" and 6' tall & literally felt as if we were in straight jackets.
When are airlines going to realize that passengers might just pay a bit more if they would provide a comfortable seat with some room to stretch your legs, especially on those long flights? Not to mention that if there were an emergency, there is no way that everyone could get into the emergency positions, put on lifevests, etc. when the cabin is claustrophobic. HORRIBLE.
Yes, we want the most reasonable fares but not at the price of being so uncomfortable for such a long period of time. Maybe crossing the Atlantic will be via cruise ship next time.

This was my first experience with the 777 flat seats. I found them to be very comfortable, great for sleeping, but a little difficult to operate. However, had an unpleasant experience with AF personnel at CDG.

Our flight was seriously delayed. My 80-year-old parents were trying to sleep on the floor of the Atlanta airport. There was no where they could go. The TVs were loud, people were noisy. We arrived in Paris too late to make our connection. Air France could not help us because we were Delta passengers. We had to find hotel rooms, request our luggage (which had been checked through to Toulouse) and wait for it. One of the suitcases had been destroyed and was taped together. Their medicine bottles were crushed. It was like the bag had fallen or been dropped on the wet ground and everything stuffed back in, dirty and wet. No apology, no explanation. Back from our trip, we tried to file a claim. We were told we should have carried the ruined suitcase around with us during our trip and brought it back to the States! Instead we had to buy a new one (duh). I bet they would have charged for the extra bag if we had brought it back.
