We recently flew the recently added United Express flight from AVL to MSP with a layover at ORD and return. The one stopover in Chicago was terrible. Our planes to and from Asheville were positioned on the tarmack the equivalent of several blocks from the terminal entirely in the open air. My husband has assistance from terminal to terminal and because of the distance we had to wait after everyone had deplaned for almost 30 minutes for the wheelchair, then took another 30 minutes to the terminal area and then from terminal F to terminal B. I was walking alongside and I don't think I have ever walked so far in any airport. The same situation occured on our return fight. The F gate had 4 doors and there was hardly seating available for 1 flight let alone the 3 or 4 that were constantly loading and leaving. The fault is not United's, although as a hub airport for United, one would think that they could negotiate better arrangements. I would hate to think what this trip might be like in bad weather (rain, snow, etc) with no cover and a long walk to the arrival gate. We will never do the AVL to ORD flight again. Even going through ATL is better. Better yet, flying AVL thru CLT to MSP would be less frustrating. All thumbs down for ORD.
