Alaska Airlines is beefing up service for fall with the addition of three new routes. Starting November 16, Alaska will begin daily nonstop service between Chicago and Portland. This comes at a special introductory fare of $99 one-way, available through January 31, with blackout dates November 20, 21, 25, 28-30, December 18-21, 23, 26-28, and January 2-4. Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members will also receive double miles along this route.
And starting August 23, Horizon Air will fly nonstop from Redding with daily direct service from Arcata/Eureka to Seattle, also with an introductory fare of $99 one-way for travel through December 16.
Virgin America has a new sale for fall/winter, for travel from August 28 through November 18, and again from December 2 to December 16, and January 6 through February 10. Fares require a 3-day advance purchase, and all bookings must be made by September 8.
In other Virgin America news, they've upped baggage fees from $15 to $20 per checked bag. Passengers may check up to 10 bags at $20 each. The first checked bag may weigh up to 70lbs while bags 1-10 may weigh up to 50lbs each.
Fly from Seattle to Southeast Asia this fall, as part of EVA Airway's current sale. Fares are valid on weekdays, for outbound travel through November 30, with a two-month maximum stay.

It's Monday, which means JetBlue has dropped their weekly batch of Twitter deals. These are good for one-way travel on Saturday, August 29. String together a return flight at full fare and you've still got yourself a good deal. Of course, there were a few routes where we found the return fare to be...meh...beyond high (ahem, Newark to Tampa/Orlando, we're looking at you), so we won't bother with posting those. American Airlines is implementing revisions to its baggage policy for customers traveling between certain locations in Europe, India and the United States, including U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The revised policy takes effect for tickets purchased on or after Sept. 14, 2009. The changes apply to transatlantic travelers on any flight operated by American Airlines for travel to, from or through India, as well as the following European countries - Belgium, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.
Customers who purchase certain economy class tickets on or after the effective date will be able to check one bag for free and will pay $50 for a second checked bag.
Here are some examples of exceptions for travelers who will not pay any checked bag charge (other exemptions may also apply - see www.aa.com/bag for details):
·American's AAdvantage program members who have achieved
AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum and AAdvantage Executive Platinum levels, as well as oneworld® Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby members;
·Passengers booked in First and Business Class cabins, as well as those who purchase full-fare tickets in the Economy Class cabins;
·Active U.S. Military personnel traveling on orders or personal travel;

OpenSkies, the last of the All Biz Class carriers, is offering $1,115 round-trip fares (taxes included) for fall/winter travel from New York to Paris. For a seat in business class, we doubt you'll do better.
