New city to city fare alerts

Posted by George Hobica on Saturday, March 8, 2008

In addition to our new, cleaner "look" here at Airfarewatchdog, we're now offering city to city fare alerts. So if you want to be alerted when a fare goes down to a "buy" price, just from New York JFK to Miami, say, or Boston to Pittsburgh, you can change your alert preferences to add those specific alerts.

Big deal, you say? Other sites offer this already? Yeah, but they don't include fares on Southwest. They don't include promo code fares. They don't include Skybus, Allegiant, and other airlines. They don't include Spirit's $1 fares. They don't check to see if a decent number of seats are available.

We do. And we won't send you fare alerts unless we consider the fare to be at or near its recent or historical low point (if a fare has gone down 20%, but it's still sky high, you won't be hearing from us).

We've also added international city alerts. This is where we'll send you an alert to your choice of foreign airports. Perhaps you've been looking for a cheap fare from Birmingham to Berlin, but it's been sky high. But what if there's a great deal from Atlanta? We'll tell you about it in these alerts, along with all other fares we list to Berlin.

Amazing fares to Shanghai on Delta from $575 RT including tax!

Posted by George Hobica on Friday, March 7, 2008

We've found some really low fares on Delta to Shanghai, China. Nonstops from Atlanta are $575 RT including tax for April travel, compared to fares that are twice that much on some airlines. Fares from many other cities are included.

Check out our Shanghai search results.

Nice Savings on New Virgin America Promo

Posted by Alisa B on Thursday, March 6, 2008

In their latest offering, Virgin America is reducing fares by 30% off their already attractive fares simply by having you enter a promo code in the promo box at time of booking on their website.  You MUST be an EleVate member (so register right away!) to receive e-mail containing the proper code for your specific use.

In more cases than not, the service is non-stop and fares can be booked as one-ways as well.  Travel between now and May 21, 2008 and book by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on March 9 to cash in on this nice one.  The promo applies to Main Cabin accommodation only.  Blackout dates are March 20 - March 24, 2008.  Needless to say (but we'll say it anyway), taxes and fees are additional.  The promo code may only be used once.  Run (or fly), don't walk to the Virgin America website!  These are some really good fares this go-round on most of Virgin America's routes.

Singapore for a Song

Actually, we're serving up a whole buffet of tasty fares to Singapore that won't have you singing for your dinner, but rather humming happily and rubbing your belly all the way across the Pacific. A little known outfit called Lessno really lives up to its name by sometimes offering dishy deals for much less, no less—in this case by shaving hundreds of dollars off the going rate of going there. Still, there's no such thing as one-stop shopping in the travel business and from some cities the better fares are found elsewhere, like Orbitz. Check out our Fare of the Day column for an appetizing sample before perusing the full mouth-watering menu.

Ginza Go-Go Fares

If you've got a yen to go to Japan in the near future, you may want to schedule your departure for the end of April or early May. While that may be too late to see the cherries bloom, it could also be your last chance for a good deal this side of summer.

American Airlines is having a mini-sale and nothing about these prices is lost in translation, so check out our list of very competitive fares from several dozens major airports and grab yours to go before they go the way of cherry blossoms.

From some cities, getting there in time for flower festivals will add less than the cost of Tokyo take-out to your ticket, and Northwest has its West Coast gateways awash in great non-stop fares like a month-long April shower of savings.

Spirit Airlines $16 round-trips for $9 Fare Club Members Only

Posted by George Hobica on Tuesday, March 4, 2008

We're not touting Spirit's $9 Fare Club, but quite honestly, they do have some great deals. You can do a trial membership for $9 (3 months) and a full year is $40. We joined so that we can check to see if seats are available for the fares they list, but we've never taken advantage of them (hey, we're too busy finding fares here.)

Right now they have a sale on a handful of dates for each route that's on sale. For example, Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale is $16 RT, as is Columbia, SC (a new city for them) to Lauderdale. Check out the entire list. This sale ends at 2 PM ET on March 5, but don't worry, another one is sure to follow in short order.
