What's this? Minneapolis based budget carrier Sun Country is offering seasonal summer flights to London?! As in, England? Well, apparently so! As of June 11, Sun Country will begin weekly service between Minneapolis and London-Stansted, departing MSP on Fridays and returning from STN on Sundays, through August 15. Be warned though, at $936 round-trip including taxes (or $399 one-way, before taxes), fares do not come cheap. Still, for peak summer travel, their fare beats out the lowest peak summer fare offer from Orbitz, which is $1,398 on Delta. Neither quite as budget as we'd hoped. But stay tuned! It's early yet, and who knows where summer fares will go!
Well, finally! Some incredible spring fares for travel to Europe and North Africa! And to destinations we don't see a lot of great deals to (especially in late spring!), like France, Greece, Italy, and even Morocco. From Spanish carrier Iberia, these fares are good for departures through May 31, with returns no later than early June, around the time fares start to skyrocket for peak summer.

You may recall that it was Spanish carrier Iberia who had some of last winter's best deals to Europe, and it looks like they've come to the rescue again this year. On offer are deals not only to Spain but to Greece, Portugal, France, Italy, as well as Morocco. And just as before, you'll find the best fares in the sale are for travel from Boston, New York, Chicago, and Miami, although other cities are certainly included. For a broader list of these departure cities, please visit our Barcelona Fares Page.

Flying Air France this Fall? Starting November 1, Air France will charge a $50 fee for checking a second bag, weighing up to 50lbs (23 kilos). For passengers departing from Europe, this fee will be EUR50. Bags weighing between 50lbs and 70lbs will now cost $100 (or for European departures, EUR100), up from the previous charge of $50. For checking a third (or additional) bag up to the allowed weight of 50lbs, passengers will be charged $200 (or for European departures, make that EUR200). These new fees apply only to passengers traveling in Economy Class between the US and Europe, as well as Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey. Passengers are allowed to check one free bag, weighing up to 50lbs.
Passengers flying in First or Business Class are exempt from these new baggage rules. Also, those flying Economy with Gold, Silver, SkyTeam Elite, or Elite Plus status are allowed 2 pieces of checked luggage at no cost, provided bags do not exceed 50lbs each.
Club 2000, Skipper members, and those traveling in Premium Voyageur Class are allowed 2 pieces of checked luggage at no cost, provided bags do not exceed 70lbs each.

Land yourself a seat on the inaugural New York-Paris flight of the new Air France A380, all while helping a good cause! Air France is auctioning off tickets through their Ebay store for inaugural flights from New York to Paris, as well as Paris to New York. Bidding is available for round-trip or one-way tickets in either L'Espace Affaires Business Class or Voyageur Economy Class. Ticket holders are also entitled to "a special itinerary of cultural activities and shoping" as well as discounted rates from Air France hotel partners Marriot and Accor.

For a promotion ending today, Emirates is discounting the first 500 economy class and 500 business class seats sold on flights from the US to Africa via Dubai. Emirates has daily flights to New York, Houston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco; click here to see available destinations.
The deal will shave $150 off in economy class and $500 in business, and you'll still have access to the award-winning ICE in-flight entertainment system (Information, Communication, and Entertainment) to keep you busy as you jet off towards Table Mountain or the Land of the Pharaohs.
You have until 11:59pm PDT July 15 to book, which is actually 2:59am EST July 16.
After several U.S. airlines started their late summer/fall airfare battle, we were hoping that some of the international airlines would get a few sales going as well.
Air France announced today their September & October Sale between the U.S. and Europe. Once you include all the taxes and fees, some of these fares are not as low as we saw from previous sales in May or June. But if you still have to get to Europe during September or October, you can check out these Air France fares and see if they work for you.
Sample fares (fuel surcharge included below, but not all the other taxes and fees):
Philadelphia to Geneva - $182 one-way
San Francisco to Munich - $206 one-way
Boston to Barcelona - $254 one-way
Washington to Paris - $257 one-way
Chicago to Paris - $279 one-way
New York to Nice - $298 one-way
Valid for travel starting August 31 through October 24, 2009. Purchase tickets by Wednesday, July 15th, 11:59 EDT. Minimum Sunday night stay is required. 7-day advance purchase required.
Fare + All Taxes & Fees Included: We found Philly-Geneva to be $524 (9/14-9/21), $543 for San Fran-Munich (10/14-10/21), $618 for Boston-Barcelona (10/6-10/13), $630 for DC-Paris (9/10-9/17), $675 for Chicago-Paris (9/22-9/29), and $695 for New York to Nice (9/7-9/14). Sample fares were found for travel on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday. If you have different travel dates than the ones we picked above, the one-way fares were found during other weeks as well in both September and October.
So if you take off for Europe this September or October, send us a email or take along your Airfarewatchdog T-shirt with you. We always love to hear where our Airfarwatchdog fans have traveled. Now get out there and travel!
