Delta rolls out Northwest 747's in DL's livery

Posted by George Hobica on Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Delta is repainting Northwest's 16 Boeing 747's in new colors. However, the planes will be flown by Northwest crew for the time being until the two airlines can merge their FAA operating certificates. More importantly for airfares, a number of cities or routes primarily served by Northwest and Delta will probably see some fare hikes. But meanwhile, we have some shiny new aircraft paint jobs to admire. For more on this topic, head over to the WSJ's Middle Seat Terminal.

OBTW, do not forget the 757's and DC9's. Many 757 routes recently have been made DC9 routes to ensure all seats have butts occupying them.

Notably the DTW to BWI route.

That was forever a Sunday 757 route that was 100% seat full every night. But now it is a DC9.

The Bean Counters strike again.

Until this country gets out of the hands of the Banksters and Bean Counters there will never be improvement anywhere.

This is just a taste of what is yet to come. As time goes on the A3XX series, Regional Jets and all the Prop Jobs will get folded into the same pot.

Cities where both Delta and NWA fly the same routes will see the NWA routes disappear and Delta take them over.

Where both Delta and NWA operate you will see the Larger Staffs absorb the work of the smaller staffs and the smaller staffs be reduced.

The Lounges at the Air Ports are already seeing the changes. Specifically Detroit and the NWA Lounges.

Plus the rates are changing to obtain these Premium Services.

Sure as a Platinum Elite Plus you get better treatment.

Yet to attain the same level is now getting so difficult that unless you fly internationally or multiple days a week or cross country for a living and rack up Insane numbers of Miles, you will never see Platinum Elite Status.

You might want to do an analysis of the new changes of NWA and Delta's Frequent Flyer Plans Then Vs Now and just how much is being lost after the merger.

We keep getting letters from the Delta Folks saying we enjoy more benefits flying Delta but I am not so sure this is the case any longer.

Too bad they don't spiff up the interior of their 747s. Money better spent. Some of them are 30 years old and look it!
