Airtran has increased overweight and oversized baggage fees by $10 per bag each way. They've also upped the second checked bag fee. Alaska Airlines has also increased baggage fees. See our updated baggage fee chart for details.

It does nothing to save me money since I don't travel with overweight bags and I'm savvy enough to check what surcharges there are BEFORE I book my ticket. My hope is that by Air Canada including their fuel surcharge in their ticket price that they will continue to be more expensive to fly while still providing that same crappy service that people have grown so fond of. I would rather see a fuel surcharge that can be applied and taken away as the price of oil rises and falls because that is a savings I can see. Of course, I'm only one person....

actually, it's a good thing that they're folding the fuel charge into all their advertised prices. It's more honest to show you the real fare rather than tease you with a low fare and then surprise you with the surcharges. And their baggage fee changes for overweight and oversized bags will actually save people money.

More updates for your chart :) Air Canada has now dropped their fee for a 2nd bag "due to the drop in fuel cost" yet they are now incorporating the fuel surcharge into the price of the ticket. They are also increasing the cost of an overweight bag.
So while AC thinks they are being so consumer friendly West Jet announces that they are dropping their fuel surcharge all together (and there never was a checked baggage fee).
And people still wonder why I refuse to fly Air Canada...
