We may be a few centuries shy of tackling teleportation, but, dammit Jim, can't we at least advance beyond paper luggage tags? British Airways thinks so. The UK carrier has partnered with Microsoft to begin a month-long trial of personalized, digital bag tags for passengers flying between Seattle and London Heathrow.

Using a smartphone, travelers will update bag tag barcodes with their itinerary details via British Airways app. Bag tags have a battery life of up to 5 years, and are designed for repeated use. No more paper, no more printing, and -best of all- less time waiting.
