On this page, we show "real life" examples of the unusually low fares that we've been able to book on Travelocity and other sites. We offer these fares as "proof" that such fares were actually bookable, because sometimes the fares we list are so low that people think we're making this stuff up. Only the most recent (top) fares are likely to be bookable when you read this, since some of these fares are unadvertised fare reductions that last only a short while.
Los Angeles/Newark $277 RT including tax, nonstop on Continental
Two things are unusual about this weekend fare: first, it's unadvertised (you wouldn't have seen it listed in Continental's weekly Specials); and second, you can leave on a Friday as well as a Saturday, returning the following Mon/Tue.

White Plains, NY/Los Angeles $210 RT including tax and a $7 Travelocity booking fee
Who says airfares are sky high? Certainly not us. If you're flexible, you can always find a cheap seat, such as this Saturday to Saturday coast to coast itinerary on Northwest. Base fare is $169 RT. Can't beat that.

New York/San Francisco, $245 RT including tax
Base fare is $198 RT. Can't beat that. Seats are available, at the time of posting, from September to May (2009) only.

New York/San Francisco, business/first class on American nonstops, $1519 RT including tax
We don't normally show first/business class fares on this page, but this is a great example of how relatively inexpensive they can be. On this AA itinerary, you fly out in business, and return in first. To find fares like these, go to AA.com and choose "price and schedule" when searching for fares. You'll see a wide range of options, including "instant upgrade" and "business special". These are not fully refundable fares and may carry a change fee, but they can be $1000 less than full fare first/business fares

Orlando/Chattanooga $98 RT nonstop on Allegiant
Someone emailed us saying that this fare was nowhere to be found. Well, it's actually quite easy to find if you use the "flexible dates" option on Allegiantairlines.com. Shown below is the fare for two people on this route, plus tax. Allegiant's fares are not listed on Travelocity, Kayak, and so on.

Los Angeles to Dubai $852 RT
Spring travel including taxes
4/21/08: A cool fare just in time to hit the desert before it gets too hot. Also available from other cities. Click on the image below to see the complete list of Dubai fares.

Boston to Venice $681 RT
Peak summer travel including taxes
4/17/08: Yet more proof that even in a year of record prices there are good deals to be had for summer travel to Europe. You have to be fast and flexible to catch them, though, because these unadvertised sales are short-lived—lasting anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days—and seats are often as scarce as the choice of travel days are limited. Click the image below to see if the fare is still available.

Los Angeles to Beijing $976 RT
Peak summer travel including taxes
4/16/08: Here's your ticket to Beijing in time for the Olympics. It does involve a long layover in Guangzhou, but the savings should make it worth it. Click the image below for details.

New York to Nice $617 RT
Non-stop peak summer travel including taxes
4/15/08: Part of Air France's unadvertised one-day wonder sale that had summer fares to France and the rest of Europe going for up to half off.

Los Angeles to Sydney $907 RT
Non-stop peak season travel including taxes
4/7/08: At a time when competitors are charging closer to $3,000, the new Australian carrier, V Australia, had an introductory sale for those who plan far, far ahead to travel starting early 2008. Since the airline doesn't actually take to the air until mid-December, there should be time for several promotions yet, so keep your eyes peeled.

San Francisco to San Juan, $213 RT incl. taxes
Can't find a good fare to Hawaii? How about something different for a warm weather getaway. From San Juan, you can often find cheap flights to other Caribbean islands.

Chicago to Frankfurt $578 RT
Peak summer travel including taxes
4/3/08: The Budapest deal mentioned below was short-lived and long gone. If you missed it, consider this your consolation prize. Click the image below for details.

Los Angeles to London $648 RT
Peak summer travel including taxes
4/2/08: Another great deal from the West Coast on US Airways, this on somewhat less flexible terms than previous sales (see San Francisco sample airfare below). Check our blog for more information or click the image below for details.

Chicago to Budapest $505 RT
Peak summer travel including taxes
4/2/08: Probably the best midsummer deal from the Midwest to Mitteleuropa we're likely to see this year. Check our blog for more information or click the image below for details.

Newark to Geneva $747 RT
Non-stop peak summer travel including taxes
3/27/08: With most summer fares to Europe starting at $1,000, this is one of the best deals we've seen so far this year, about $300 less than the next best fare to Switzerland and available all summer. See our blog for more information or click the image below for details.

Flint, MI to Orlando $36 RT for May travel
The taxes are almost as much as the fare on this amazing Continental Airlines deal. This fare lasted only a short while, but those who signed up for our new city to city alerts got an email on this route (and, of course, it worked from Orlando to Flint as well). Often, fares this low are "published" by the airlines but can't be booked. This fare, however, was very easy to book and there were plenty of seats available. As you can see, the next lowest fare was $158 RT!
Atlanta to Shanghai $576 RT
Non-stop April travel on Delta including taxes
Delta is having an amazing sale to Shanghai (see entire list).

Boston to Bangkok $894 RT
April travel including taxes
It may be expensive, but it's still a good deal at nearly $700 off the current average fare. Similar relative bargains available from other cities, mostly east of the Mississippi.

Portland to Singapore $717 RT
One-stop spring travel including taxes
A model fare to get you from one model of urban planning to another. For model citizens living in less civilized places, we've also found some great bargains. Read more in our blog, if you haven't already, or jump to the full list.

San Francisco to London $645 RT
Peak summer travel including taxes
You probably won't find a better deal to London this summer than US Airways' new connecting service to London Heathrow. Flights to London Gatwick are even cheaper but not as widely available. From Los Angeles, add $70 for Gatwick and $110 for Heathrow. Click on the following links to see what fares are available from elsewhere to either Heathrow or Gatwick.

New York to Rome $474 RT
Non-stop spring travel including taxes
Great fare for a great time to visit the Eternal City before the temperatures and prices soar. Click on the image below for more details.

Los Angeles to London $876 RT
Non-stop peak summer travel including taxes
Sure, it may sound like a lot of money right now, but this is probably the best fare you're going to find for peak summer travel from the West Coast to the West End, all taxes and free champagne included on the new non-stop Air France flights. As with many great deals, this one is not widely available, although you should have no problem finding fares for $30-60 more, assuming you're flexible with your dates and act fast (before February 22). If you see one and let it slip away, trust us, you'll kick yourself later for missing the chance to save hundreds of dollars. Click on the image below for more details.
Other great introductory fares are also on offer from Air France for this flight, starting as low as $441 for April travel.

New York to Puerto Vallerta $296 RT
Non-stop spring travel including taxes
Definitely a rare deal, available only for a few Saturday departures in from April to June. Click on the image below for more details.
A very different but similarly priced deal is available from Chicago.

New York (LGA)/San Francisco $123 RT
$169 RT with taxes and a $5 Orbitz fee
Of course, you can book this on NWA.com and save $5, but we find it's easier to find low priced seats on Orbitz. And seats are currently available for travel through Jan 2009, but this sale could end at any moment.

Washington to Tel Aviv $629 RT with tax
It's probably last call for these great fares on Iberia to the Holy Land. We only found a few seats left on a couple of dates for early March travel. Next best fare is also from Iberia, but almost $300 more, and the competition wants over $1,000 to get you there.
A couple of great and a few good Iberia fares are also still available from other cities, like Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. See them all on our Tel Aviv fares page and get them before it's too late! All taxes and fees included.

Minneapolis/Miami $99 RT
$136 with taxes and an Orbitz booking fee
Here's a sample booking from Orbitz on Continental Airlines. Travel through May 20.
$99 + $37 taxes & fees = $136 per person
