Airlines up fees again!

As you can see from checking out our newly revised airline fee chart, a number of airlines have snuck in some higher fees.
Pet in cabin fees have especially skyrocketed. Continental now charges $250 RT (up from $190); Delta gouges a hefty $300 RT (a $100 increase); but United wins the cake, raising its fee from $200 up to $350 RT.
Unaccompanied minor fees have also gone up. Frontier now charges $50 per segment (so $200 RT on a connecting flight with one connection each direction), up from $40; and United now charges an industry leading $150 each way (connecting or nonstop), up from $99 each way.

It is now much cheaper for me to drive my truck and camper from WA to CO or CA than to fly. I have two dogs I travel to shows with. They have priced themselves out of the market.

I agree. It's cheaper now to hire a dog sitter. Maybe they just don't want to bother flying pets!

After flying for 4 hours with a dog who barked the entire flight I'm glad to see that the fees have gone up, although in reality the higher fees don't really benefit me unless it actually deters people form taking there dogs. I do realize that not all dogs are as bad as this one was, but it really made the flight less pleasant for those of us seated nearby.

Please tell me how a 7-pound dog who is forced to remain in a bag, stuck under the seat, costs the airline money. I paid $200 RT from LAS/DFW last week to bring my elderly chihuahua along. My ticket cost $300, but I got a seat and was given water w/o charge. What do airlines charge for lap-children? Do they allow babies free water? Compare screaming children to barking dogs. (My dog is quiet.) To Suz, if the airline would allow the owner to comfort the dog, silence would ensue. Can't say the same for a wailing 14-month old human. My opinion is that pet-fees gouge consumers and are discriminatory.
