If you’re a big fan of Jetblue and frequently go in and out of Boston, you’ll love this news. The carrier, which already offers the most nonstop destinations between Boston and elsewhere, has announced plans to add 30% more flights by the summer of next year. This will make a total of 78 daily flights to 33 destinations from Logan. Most of the added flights will be on already existing routes. The only new route that has been announced in this expansion is a once weekly flight to Montego Bay Jamaica. New flights include:
Two additional daily flights to Chicago/O'Hare (for a total of three)
Two additional daily flights to Raleigh/Durham (for a total of three)
One additional daily flight to Baltimore/Washington (for a total of five)
One additional daily flight to Charlotte (for a total of three)
One additional daily flight to Denver (for a total of two)
One additional daily flight to Fort Lauderdale (for a total of four)
One additional daily flight to San Diego (for a total of two)
One additional daily flight to San Francisco (for a total of two)
One additional daily flight to Washington/Dulles (for a total of seven)
Four additional weekly flights to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (for a total of one daily)
One weekly flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica (for a total of one weekly) (Begins Jan 9)
This is a good move as Jetblue tries to stay ahead of Southwest Airlines, which started service to Boston earlier in the year. This expansion will come at a cost however. Jetblue does not have any scheduled deliveries for new aircraft within the next year. This means that routes elsewhere will likely have to be cut or reduced in order to compensate, or it will have to use its current fleet more efficiently.
